Hair Removal

The most common and cost effective method of hair removal is with wax epilation. We use premium hard wax which is vegan friendly and allergen free. It is applied warm, allowed to dry, and then removed quickly in the opposite direction of hair growth. It is less irritating to sensitive skin than other waxing methods. The higher quality wax that is used, the less painful the process is.

Waxing services offered include brows, facial and neck hair, body hair, underarms, and bikini / brazilians. This process generally lasts up to 4 weeks.

New to Waxing?

Waxing is the most common method of hair removal in spas today. Hair on any part of the body or face can be waxed. Warm wax is applied to the area and then removed, bringing the hair with it. There are two types of wax that can be used: soft wax and hard wax. While soft wax adheres to hair, it also adheres to the skin, which can be very painful to some people. (We don’t like that.)

Hard wax is different in that it adheres primarily to just the hair. We proudly use Mermaid Wax in our practice. Because of the premium quality of this wax, it causes very little sensitivity or redness to the skin.

When performed in consistent intervals (4 weeks is a good guideline), it will reduce the returning hair growth. Waxing pulls the hair out by the roots, so it grows back softer, finer, and thinner. The more you wax, the less hair grows back.

Please note that waxing should not be performed if you have particularly sensitive skin, because it exfoliates some skin cells along with the hair. It is extremely important to understand that some health conditions, as well as some medications will cause the skin to react badly to waxing. Do Not wax if you’re taking Retin-A, Accutane, or any type of acne prescription. This can cause bruising or skin lifting.

Preparing for treatment

You can let the hair grow out to approximately the length of a grain of rice. If hairs are too short, the wax won’t adhere strongly enough to pull them out. If you can help it, please refrain from taking a shower or bath before the treatment, as soaking the hair softens it, which allows it to break more easily and making waxing less effective. Also, please do not apply lotion to the skin before your waxing session. We will take care of you.

What to Expect

An antiseptic spray may be applied to cleanse the area first, and if needed, we may apply a light dusting of baby powder to be sure the skin is dry before applying the wax.

Is it Painful?

The majority of clients tolerate waxing well, and get used to the sensation after a couple of treatments. The level of discomfort you feel will depend on your general level of pain tolerance, the area which is being waxed, and in some cases, your level of hormones at that time of the month. If you still find waxing very uncomfortable after several treatments, many aestheticians offer numbing creams that can be applied prior to the service, or you can take a doctor approved anti-inflammatory such as ibuprophen or tylenol to decrease inflammation after your service. For females, we advise that it is best not to schedule a waxing service just prior to or during your menstrual cycle, as you are likely more sensitive to pain and discomfort at this time.

Home Care

Proper care for your skin following a waxing treatment is essential for preventing ingrown hairs, breakouts, or other reactions. Immediately after treatment, avoid excessive direct sunlight and tanning booths, especially if your skin is red from treatment. For 24 hours after waxing, it is best to avoid exercise, hot tubs and saunas, steam, and products with perfumes, dyes, or harsh chemicals. You may apply a light moisturizer 24 hours after treatment. Gentle exfoliation will help keep your skin clear. Use a light soap that does not leave residue on your skin and could clog your pores and cause ingrown hairs.
